Three of the Hunkiest Joe Manganiello On-Screen Appearances

Joe Manganiello at Destiny launch
Actor Joe Manganiello has taken the entertainment industry by storm over the last several years.  In 2002, he made his debut film appearance as Eugene "Flash" Thompson in the film Spider-Man.  His character, who bullied Peter Parker but admired Spider-Man, helped him land other roles in the years following the film's release. In 2006, he landed a reoccurring role as Brad on CBS' How I Met Your Mother, and by the early 2010s, Manganiello had landed breakthrough roles on both One Tree Hill and True Blood.  Although Manganiello has proven that his acting abilities are to be taken seriously, many viewers are drawn to his appearances because of his undeniable good looks.  Many of his roles have drawn attention to his handsome features and chiseled physique, and at 38 years old, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native is still as hot as ever.  Here are three of the hunkiest on-screen appearances from Joe Manganiello.

 3. True Blood

From 2010 to 2014, Joe Manganiello appeared as Alcide Herveaux on HBO's hit series, True Blood.  Alcide is a full-blooded werewolf who is in love with one of the show's main characters, Sookie Stackhouse.  Initially, Manganiello was only given a six episode contract; however, fan support allowed him to stick around for much longer.  He stated: " I guess there was such a response to the character that they had to find something to do with me. So the reason I've had this five-year run is really because of this fan support." For his role on the show, Manganiello won several awards including a Scream Award for Breakout Performance.  He was also voted "Favorite Pop-Culture Werewolf of All Time" by the readers of Entertainment Weekly. Unfortunately, for viewers (and for Manganiello) he dies protecting Sookie in season seven, shortly after winning her affection at the end of season six. In July 2014, while the show was still in its original run, Manganiello was voted People Magazine's Hottest Bachelor.  During his interview with the magazine he stated: "I am passionate. I am a hot-blooded person. If you don't like spicy, then maybe I'm not for you."  However, for those who were excited by Manganiello's bachelor status, he is now engaged to actress/model, and fellow Hollywood hottie, Sofia Vergara.

2. One Tree Hill

During its nearly 10 year run, One Tree Hill became known for thrusting several young and attractive stars into the spotlight.  Manganiello's character, Owen Morello, made his first appearance during the show's fifth season.  An outsider to Tree Hill, Owen was a recovering drug user and alcoholic who had a brief relationship with Brooke Davis (Sophia Bush).  However, the couple's relationship was cut short after Owen was scared away by the fact that Brooke was ready to have a family and settle down. During an interview, Mangeniello discussed the audition process for the role, and stated: "The first audition I went into, there were 20 – 30 other actors. When I went in for the callback, it was down to myself and another actor. I think he was from Scotland. We each read twice and then I found out that I got the part shortly after that. Within a week later, I had to be in North Carolina shooting." Although Manganiello's role on the show was relatively short-lived, his work certainly didn't go unnoticed.  Manganiello's three season run on One Tree Hill along with a fan-made online petition, is what helped convince True Blood's producers and directors to add him to the show's cast.

1. Magic Mike

In the 2012 comedy-drama film, Magic Mike, Joe Manganiello starred alongside Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey as Big Richie.  Manganiello said that he signed on to take the role after a conversation with his What to Expect When You're Expecting co-star, Chris Rock.  After Manganiello confessed to Rock that he feared people would "hate" him if he took the role, Rock explained that people were going to hate him regardless. After taking the role, Manganiello's shirtless appearances were hailed by viewers, even the film's producer, Steven Soderbergh dubbed Manganiello a "walking CGI (computer-generated imagery). The film, which focused on a group of male strippers, received positive reviews from critics and was a box office success.  Legendary film critic, Roger Ebert, stated: "The choreography, costumes and production values of the shows look slick and professional, considering the fly-by-night nature of Dallas' business…Adam's descent into drug-fueled depravity is portrayed with merciless detail; when you sleep with a girl who has a pet piglet and wake up with the little fella eating your vomit, surely you've hit bottom. "Magic Mike" starts as fun and grows steadily darker; Soderbergh and cast tell a realistic, vivid story. You get a feeling of realism and research, for example, when a chubby fan throws herself into the arms of a muscular dancer, and the poor guy throws his back out."  A sequel, Magic Mike XXL is set to be released in the summer of 2015.

Edward Herrmann Dies At 71

The prolific actor starred on all seven seasons of Gilmore Girls.

Edward Herrmann — star of The Lost Boys and Gilmore Girls — has died, his manager told BuzzFeed News.

"Having valiantly braved months of treatment for brain cancer, Edward Herrmann passed peacefully at 8:30 a.m. today at Sloan Kettering hospital in New York City," Herrmann's talent agent, Robyn Stecher, wrote in a prepared statement. He was 71.

The Tony and Emmy winner had most recently appeared on The Good Wife, ABC's Black Box, and How I Met Your Mother.

While Herrmann was celebrated for his stage work and his performance as Franklin D. Roosevelt in a trio of TV movies, he is, perhaps, most beloved for playing Richard Gilmore, the stern but lovable patriarch on Gilmore Girls.

"Edward Herrmann was one of the finest human beings I've ever met. Besides being a consummate actor, he was kind and funny, fair and honest and always willing to join in the game. We shared a love of acting and of being working actors and I suspect he was secretly grateful for all the opportunity and success he enjoyed ... and deserved. His brother told me Ed never stopped learning; he was always curious. When I think of my dear friend, a phrase comes to mind: 'A hale fellow, well met.' And I am so lucky to have met him.'"

Here are the thoughts and feelings of seeing that happen IRL.

Moments before Taylor was set to perform, we crowded the stage — staring at the magical mic stand like you were waiting for the queen to take her throne.
